Todd Mandel, Community Development Director

Our communities are defined in large part by the housing we create, maintain, and provide. How a community looks at housing can say a lot about its values and character. Is there housing for everyone? Is it inclusive? Does it strive to create a blended community or does it promote classism and discrimination? These are questions that communities, large and small, struggle with every day. The desire to create communities that are vibrant, diverse, integrated, and successful is strong but executing that vision is challenging.

The ability to engage communities and help them find solutions in order to grow and evolve into the communities they want to be is what drives me to work for Couleecap. Housing cannot be the “be all and end all” of challenges that our society faces, however it is integral into the success of individuals, children, families, and communities. However, creating housing that meets the needs of the community requires creativity, drive, and risk. It is the role of non-profit housing agencies to provide those skills and values to help make housing happen where either the market will not go, or the profit motive fails to create opportunity.

Todd began his employment with Couleecap in 2005. Previously he worked for the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy at Fort McCoy near Sparta, Wisconsin.
